Is Depp Romantic As 'Sweeny Todd'?

January 2008 The New York Times' A.O. Scott called Johnny Depp's performance in Sweeny Todd "something close to a masterpiece," and Depp, as a pale-faced 19th century serial killer out for revenge, has been singled out for a performance that earned him a Golden Globe nomination and a whole lot of Oscar buzz.  We asked our panel if Johnny Depp's romance stock is a cut above the rest.

Anita Star "It is hard to say at this point.  To say he will win an Oscar over there, well, it's still a crap shot.  I liked him better as a quirky Pirate though." We might agree with you on that, Anita.

Sharon Moore "I like him a lot because he is a devoted man to his woman.  That in my book always makes him a romantic persona.  He is surely a cut above the rest."

Roxy Ray "I am not that big of a fan.  He likes movies where he always has something sharp in his hands – a sword in the Pirate movies, a razor in this one and scissors in that Scissor Hands movie… me, I like a man with a soft touch." Wow.  You showed up today, Roxy.
